The Second Place subway entrance to the F train here in Carroll Gardens was supposed to re-open at the end of February, but there have been delays. (Aren't there always?) Since then, there has been some visible progress. On Monday, a new concrete sidewalk was poured. When asked, two of the workers said that the entrance will re-open in two weeks.

The F train subway plaza and the staircase leading to the station at Second Place were blocked off during construction of the new building at 360 Smith Street back in the fall of 2010 . Since then, riders have been forced to use the smaller, narrower entrance at the corner of Second Street.
And for those who forgot what the plaza used to look like before the construction, here is a photo.

Air.
Space.
Light.
Trees.

Basking in the elements a few moments whilst waiting for the train, before descending into the bowels of the MTA and plunging into the fray.

Gone.
All gone.

Replaced by greed and ugliness.

Hard to believe that our neighborhood has changed and will never be the same again. Gone is our tree lined brownstone block, and added is the ugliest building I've ever seen. How does this compliment the neighborhood?

The other poster is correct... replaced by greed and ugliness.

Any idea if the newstand will be back?

The building now matches the new residents that have taken over carroll gardens during the last 10 years.

If by taking over you mean people who pay rent, contribute to the neighborhood businesses by eating at its restaurants and drinking at its bars and shopping at its shops then yeah, those people should go.

You must be kidding me? This new building is a vast improvement over the crappy parking lot and the sad, run-down plaza that used to occupy the lot. Wish they would now work on the ugly garage and adjacent buildings across the street.

What, tear down the Lee Bros operation??? Yet another business to be tossed aside in the name of development??
Replace it with what??
More Soviet style crapitecture that those whiny fauxhemians so love.
