No Restaurant, But Another Nail Place Opens On Smith Street

One has to really wonder what is up with all the nail places in the neighborhood. It seems that every other week a new one opens its doors, just blocks away from the next.
The very newest nail salon, Smith Nails, is at 259 Smith Street in the space occupied until recently by Salsa Salon.
Sadly, the lovely old wooden storefront with the bay window was removed to make way fora granite tile number that looks too sleek for Smith Street.
Maybe this one is better than the rest, because, frankly, most of the nail places are rather uninspiring around here. Can anyone recommend one in the neighborhood?

This nail salon appears to be related to the approx year-old salon on Court St between Atlantic & Pacific. I usually make the trek to the Court St location because the place is, quite honestly, impeccably clean and neat. Having the "sister" salon on Smith will save me the long walk to the other salon, especially when the hazy-hot-humid weather kicks in. Personally, I'm thrilled, even though I do agree that we've got a few too many salons in the neighborhood. This, however, is a welcome addition, IMO.

My go to is Cozy Nail on Court Street right across from the movie theater. Friendly service and decent mani/pedis for a good price. Would NOT recommend the nail shop next to Fish Tales. Pretty Nails, I think? The experience was anything but. I had the rudest/unhappiest woman ever do my nails and the manicure was not worth it.

So sad about the bay window. Should have been restored.

Yes too much of this chemical spreading sites for princesses.

How about the new place next door? Looks like an original addition to our nabe.

Having well groomed nails/hands (and/or feet) is not being a "princess." You know what they say about first impressions...

So many spas/salons etc....I miss the cobblers, laundromats, dry cleaners who used to provide such needed services to us all.

Katia, first you lament another nail salon, then you ask for a good one! Being a princess is wanting to pay a servant to do what well groomed people do themselves - file and polish their own nails. And you want them to be cheerful while they service you? Plz! They are just dreaming of you having to file their toenails.

Unfortunately, the cobblers, dry cleaners and other essential service providers that have closed in recent years were unable to afford the 2X-3x jacked up rents. You can thank the landlords for that. Yes, expenses go up every year as many of us homeowners know all too well, but a 3x increase is unjustified.

Just enjoyed a spa manicure/green tea pedicure and a chair massage this morning - place is spotlessly clean - reasonably priced (especially with the 20% off sale for the month) - very nice people - I know the larger area doesn't need another nail salon but on this part of Smith I, for one, will return again and again.

You missed my point: you can do such job yourself instead of using an illegal immigrant paid $1 an hour!

Exactly "first impressions"...

Anon, 9:11 pm: Some of us have arthritis and are unable to give ourselves manis & pedis. One day, you will get older too.

Are you kidding? The vast majority of the customers does not have arthritis...
