I recently got the email below from a reader pointing out a traffic problems at the intersection of Smith Street And Hamilton Avenue. The reader writes:
I was wondering if anyone has ever given you info and complained about the two businesses at Hamilton Avenue and Smith Street? Benson Scrap Metal and Greco Concrete are always blocking traffic and have vehicles parked illegally on Smith, especially during rush hour in the morning. When they need to stop traffic for a vehicle they just have a worker with no safety gear step into the street and put his hand up. The 76 Precinct does nothing but try to give tickets to drivers for seatbelts or phones at the intersection and lets these businesses do whatever they want.
I have witnessed this myself. As a matter of fact, when I took these photos yesterday, trucks at both businesses were blocking part of the intersection, which meant that other cars were stuck on Hamilton Avenue, waiting to turn onto Smith.
This is not a new problem by any means, since both Benson and Greco have been on Smith Street or decades.
Has the problem just gotten worse?  What do you think?

Typical Yuppies complaining about things. That's why I left the neighborhood after living there all my life!

I've seen this many times. Makes me nuts that the police will ticket everyone else, but businesses that create traffic jams get away with it.

I have driven that intersection for decades and it has always been like that; never better, never worse. I have never seen it as a problem, they are just doing their business.

Damn. I hate stuff like that. And it takes forever to take the subway. It's so slow. I always, always have to wait for one. And when the train does come, it makes an annoying whoosh sound. Boy, that's annoying and the police refuse to ticket them. I guess I'll have to move back to New Jersey.
Dude. The trucks have been backing up into that end of Smith longer than you probably have been driving. Take. A. Different. Route. And. Get. Over. It. Or WALK!

Hmm, funny everyone was just saying they wanted more manufacturing in the area... Yet now are complaining about what we already have... Can't have it both ways.

I just moved in the neighborhood and I saw this myself. I was wondering what other neighbor feel about this issue and noise that they make at night, sometimes mid night. I found your article here, thank you for your reports. It is causing big issue more than I thought.

It is causing an issue and they make noise after midnight. My baby wokes up because of this.
