Best Comment Of The Day: It Is Crucial

Anonymous has left the following comment on the post "Markowitz, Squadron, Millman And Lander Express Concerns About Proposed Carroll Gardens Shelter":
While this seems to be a step in the right direction, let's not forget that DHS has no obligation to listen to elected officials under the emergency dictate.Work is still going on at the site and dozens of bed frames have been put together and stacked outside at the back of the building. It is as crucial as ever to sign the petition here and to attend the CB6 meeting on Wednesday October 24, 6:30pm at PS58.

The buildings department must have something to say about this though right? There's no valid C of O for the building apparently and no posted permits for work of any kind. Frankly, I find this unsupervised, unapproved construction one of the most troubling elements of this whole debacle. This building has done everything wrong since ground was first broken for it years ago. Regardless of the intended use of the building, I don't see how any declaration of any kind gets you around due process to ensure the safety of any/all potential occupants. Let's all continue to notify 311 of this ongoing unlawful construction.

EVERYONE MUST CALL 311 and report this.

@Anon-- can you let us know when you saw this going on so we can report this, along with any details, time, dates, etc..?

Construction is happening every day. I've filed complaints yesterday and today. This morning at 9am I tried the door of the building, intending to take a picture of the work within. A woman cracked open the door when she heard me on the other side. As soon as she saw me with my cell phone camera pointed she closed the door in my face. She and most of the crew within all seem to be wearing royal blue shirts. I invite everyone in the neighborhood to circle this building and collect as many photos of this illegal construction as possible.

is there going to be a local group to get together and officially talk about what we can do about this? i live right there, and really do not like the idea of this opening up. i signed the petition and am going to try and attend the meeting next week. still, it's starting to feel pretty helpless knowing that they just continue on with no permits or approvals.

You can actually see some of the bed frames stacked on the backyard balconies from the sidewalk on Huntington. The bulk of them is on the terrace above the ground floor retail space though. Assembling furniture doesn't require a permit but having people sleeping on them certainly does. I only picked it up today. Might have happened yesterday.
