Pardon Me, But Is This Really A Problem In Carroll Gardens?

As I passed by Carroll Gardens Florist at 373 Court Street, between Carroll Street and First Place in the last few weeks, I have had to smile at the signs staked into some of the plants on display outside of the shop.  We know that some dog owners can be a bit irresponsible, but are there really owners out there who allow their dogs to do their business on potted plants in front of a florist?
What do you think?

Totally a problem.

Yes. The corner of Smith and 3rd St. has a problem with an irresponsible dog owner(s). Also, I assumed the florist was SELLING the signs.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a problem, but it's also worth noting that the guys who run that flower shop are completely nuts. Always screaming at each other at the top of their lungs! Wouldn't be surprised if these signs were just some weird paranoia based on one incident or something.

Oh yeah....big problem, especially on Clinton street.

Is this a problem in Carroll Gardens? You bet!!! Just look at the people who let their dogs pee and poop all throughout the park, knowing full well that other peoples children will play there. It is all about THEM and not about the community.

Yes - it is a problem all over Carroll Gardens and within Carroll Park, as well.

Starting w/ the Park: Not only do dog owners let their pets pee & poop in the park - but they allow it in ALL areas, fully knowing kids will be playing there after school. Many also let their dogs go "Off Leash" in the park and especially on the ballfield - which ironically is one section of the park that dogs are NOT allowed to go; on leash or off.

The Side Streets: Yes, dog owners bring their pets to the next block or around the corner to do thier business. I'd say only about 60% pick-up the poop. They don't even bother to Curb The Dog, either. It could be in the middle of the sidewalk or I've seen dogs walk into other peoples gates and pee or poop inside the "Air Gate" in front of other peoples steps. Again, only about 60% of the owners pick-up after the dog.

Note: Of the 60% that DO pick-up, almost all of them feel that ANY trash barrel they pass is a good place to drop off the poop. They don't bring thier little bag to the corner trash or to their own trash pails - they leave it in the nearest. It dosen't matter to them if it's Trash or Paper Only or Cans/Bottles - they just drop in little blue bags of poop.

And before anyone asks, YES, we have a dog and clean up after itand we NEVER bring them into ANY section of Carroll Park (which is only 1/2 a block away)

I'm a dog owner of CG and agree my fellow dog owners can be terrible... despite ALWAYS cleaning up after my dog, ALWAYS curbing her, and ALWAYS using corner trash cans, I still step in other dog mess.

I do wish there were corner trash cans on Clinton and Henry though! I live near Court, so it isn't a problem, but it might help others stop using random trash cans...

Dog poop is one of the worst quality of life problems in the city. I commend De Blasio for going with Vision Zero first but Vision #2 should be next.
I personally removed a large deposit from the dirt around one of the big trees in the middle of Carroll Park recently. My kids loves to run around those trees and go inside the hollow one.
I overheard one young dog walker (a light colored pit bull) in the park telling his friends emphatically that he doesn't pick up after his dog. Proudly.
I really wanted to give him a piece of my mind but Pit Bull, had the kids, not worth it...
It's time the city at least did a PSA blitz about cleaning up after and curbing dogs.

I wish people would curb their children - they are much more annoying than dogs. They run rampant in restaurants, enter front gardens where t hey are not wanted and not invited. People think anything their sproggen do should be cheerfully accepted by anyone around them

It's a touchy subject! When I first got my dog I "curbed" her as much as possible... until there were a few incidences of her almost being crushed by parking cars. Some people were too impatient or unobservant and would pull right up to the curb where she was doing her business and I had to pull her out of the way. Other times there have been people parking and running into the car in front of them, like dominoes, and it just all became too close for comfort. I understand that pee on the sidewalk is a nuisance but the alternative of my pup becoming a pancake just isn't an option, I'm sorry. Most of the time these drivers have been the obnoxious mommy types who think all public spaces such as the parks and restaurants exist solely for the enjoyment of their kids. After once instance of my dog being nearly run over I threw up my hands in frustration at the mini-SUV that couldn't wait another 10 seconds for the parking space and the yoga mommy driving the car rolled down her window and said "I'm sorry but my BABY is really tired and I need to get inside ASAP." You know the type. Anyway, I am a very responsible dog owner, I pick up after my dog- I think everyone should. However, no dog owner should be put in the position of placing their dog in harm's way (curbing). Just my 2 cents.
As to dogs peeing on flower shop potted plants- well that is gross the the owners need to be more mindful. Get them over as close to the curb as possible w/o them getting run over by a yoga mommy.

Thank you for trying to curb your pet and for always picking up after him/her.

Yes, I'd say it's the people who are the problem - not the pets. Whether it's pet owners who don't care or drivers who don't look - -THEY are the problem.
Yes, I know what you mean about the Hipster Mom's who are too old and/or too rude and/or too "Dim Witted" to be raising kids. Ironically, I wouldn't mind seeing thier kids come running to them with hands full of Doggy Poo - - - These hipsters would first pass out from the shock, then they'd form a collition to Ban Dogs from... Well, PERIOD - you know they're so extreme. LOL
(But that's another issue - Parents who think their little sweeties can do no wrong and have every right to infringe on ours.)
