New York City Department of Environmental Protection's new Commissioner, Emily Lloyd, has accepted an invitation by the Environmental Protection Agency's Gowanus Canal Superfund Community Advisory Group to attend its next meeting scheduled for June 24th.

The CAG  would like to discuss the City's role in the clean-up of our heavily polluted waterway with the Commissioner. More specifically, the CAG would like to hear from Commissioner Lloyd regarding the location of the two retention tanks for combined sewer overflow that are defined in the EPA’s Record of Decision (ROD) , which was signed in September 2013.
(Just recently, the EPA has had to issue a Unilateral Order to compel New York City to perform the design for siting and building the CSO retention tanks and for the excavation and restoration of the 1st Street Basin, as described in the ROD.)

Other issues the CAG would like to address with Commissioner Lloyd pertain to the size of the retention tanks, and the re-activation of the Gowanus Flushing Tunnel.
All CAG meetings are open to the public.

There is just one thing the community needs to hear from the commissioner, that her department is working full speed and coordinating well with the EPA on those aspects of the Superfund Cleanup the city is required to undertake.

Everyone whats assurances that the city will stop the delays and do the needed work to keep this cleanup on schedule.

Anything shy of this will be a waste of time for all.
