For the past few years, someone has been growing amazing produce on a plot of land at the corner of Carroll Street and Bond Street.  I believe the lot is part of the St. Mary's Star of The Sea Senior apartments, but cannot say for sure.
Whoever it is has a very green thumb.  This year's crop includes red peppers, hot peppers, eggplants, squash and even watermelon. It all looks fantastic.
Does anyone know who the gardener is?

a haa, Whole Foods with out the Market!

not too long ago Carroll Gardens was covered with kitchen gardens and this time of year you would smell all the tomatoes being cooked into sauce emanating from many homes.

So true. This was tomato canning time when I first moved into the neighborhood 40 years ago.
Back then, my Italian neighbor had at leads 40 tomato plants growing the the back yard.

The lot IS part of the Mary Star apartment complex. The gardener lives in a sort of side-apartment of that building, that, as far as I can tell, is not connected to the old folks home -- it's just sort an independent apartment that happens to be there. The owners can often be seen grilling and lounging outside.

I've actually only talked to her a couple of times. She's Eastern European, I believe, but i'm not sure from exactly where.

I've LOVED watching the garden grow each of the past three summers. She's really talented.
