As 2017 draws to a close, it would be tempting to write about all the neighborhood stores and restaurants that closed this year. Instead, PMFA decided to pay homage to some of the businesses that have been operating in and around Carroll Gardens for quite some time and seem to be thriving where others fail. The photos above represent just a few of these stores, but they are meant as a reminder that we should not take them for granted.

If we, as local residents, want a vibrant community, we need to support our local businesses.
So, let us pledge to keep them going in 2018... and for many years to come.

All great places. But how about some love for Lana’s Barber Shop on Henry?

The rollout of photos of these grand old businesses reminds us
what local treasures we still have, in spite of what has gone.

I shop at them all and not only enjoy the warm, old-world surroundings
but appreciate how they have kept the quality of what they sell high through the years.

Long may they all reign on Court and Smith!

I love this tribute. I miss these businesses since moving to Riverdale. KY is the best for produce! I wish they had a store near me.

I bopped into Esposito and Sons today to get sandwiches and prosciutto balls, headed down to D'Amico for coffee, then into Scotto's for wine. That's how people used to shop in the 'good old days'. And what a privilege that we still get to.

Like you, I always thought it was a privilege. Walking frim ine store to the next, exchanging pleasantries with the owners and feeling connected to the neighborhood... that is what it is all about.
