DoE Abandons Its Plan To House Charter School At PS32Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17882047670852126739noreply@blogger.comBlogger4125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-83063295718761635632011-03-10T09:33:07.624-05:002011-03-10T09:33:07.624-05:00I'm surprised anything gets done at this schoo...I'm surprised anything gets done at this school. I mentored a pair of brothers there who were always being held back. One boy needed glasses and he was never fitted or tested for any. Yes, parents are suppossed to do all of this but why his teacher did not notice the boy couldn't see is beyond me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-79444219625850988982011-03-09T20:32:01.018-05:002011-03-09T20:32:01.018-05:00It does truly stink. However, the charter which is currently co-located in the new state of the art Sunset Park High School, has signed a lease in a new building on Douglass. However, that building is still under construction.

What stinks even more is that the DOE won't support the existing schools or provide them with crucial learning materials and resources. This includes some of the new smaller schools. I can't imagine how demoralizing it must for students that have to attend closing schools.Cynthianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-48824959688944722202011-03-09T20:23:19.264-05:002011-03-09T20:23:19.264-05:00The Charter School will eventually move into a bra...The Charter School will eventually move into a brand new school building in the Gowanus area, which is cool. This community certainly needs another middle school, especially one that will grow into a high school.
However, re-locating it into PS 32 even just for a year would have meant a real disruption in the lives of the elementary school kids.
I am glad that the DoE saw the error of its way in this instance.Katiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06484246196723019291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-84295590370567801332011-03-09T18:54:35.102-05:002011-03-09T18:54:35.102-05:00Thanks for posting about this. It truly stinks that there is not enough room for two programs trying to educate our community and that there has to be a choice between one or the other. I hope the charter school finds an alternative space. And I'm glad ASD Nest Program remains where it is.Melissa Sarnohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11215683401795724259noreply@blogger.com
