The fate of Astro Turf at 290 Smith Street has been in limbo for a very long time. One day, the store's doors closed and never opened for business again, though it was fully stocked with wonderfully kitschy 1950's and 60's decorative items. Over time, a coat of dust settled on everything in the store. Then in October of this year, construction paper was taped to the storefront's windows and, upon inquiry, I was told that Astro Turf would soon re-open after a spruce up. The two women who operated Astro Turf did it as a side thing. One woman had left an art job or something in Manhattan. They also own the building. Or one of them does. She painted the trim blue. I see them from time to time but never during the shuttering of the store. Yes. Overpriced. I bought a great enamel kitchen table there for a client.

The wares were appealing but very overpriced. Never bought anything there. Would rather go to Yesterday's News.
