I beleive in the voice and input of the community.

However, I also think it's important to look at assumptions we have about homeless people. When we keep saying "those people" it seems there might be underlying issues of how we view poor people. I know the number of men who will be there is mentioned a lot, but if there was 100 or 75 would the community really feel better?

I support us coming together as a community and I value everyone's opinions. I definitely think conflict of interest issues should be explored. I also just want us to keep ourselves in check about possible assumptions and judgments we might be making. Homeless people should not be criminialized.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-66237266420584033072012-10-26T14:33:42.361-04:002012-10-26T14:33:42.361-04:00i really wanted to get on that long line of questi...i really wanted to get on that long line of questioners and ask the representative from the 76th precinct what THEIR plan is. Then again i would've interrupted his 2 hour texting session. Not a peep from our local police on how they are going to deal with this huge increase in activity for them. They'll finally have something to do aside from giving old ladies like me tickets for riding on a desolate sidewalk at 11pm at night. Hope they're up for the challenge!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-9375207146758853622012-10-25T16:14:48.898-04:002012-10-25T16:14:48.898-04:00interesting math ...

John Heyer, who now runs Buddy's funeral home, who has become Buddy's right-hand man, his protege in development.

Is it any surprise that the Scottos are continuing to build a political "empire" here in Carroll Gardens? Is it shocking that his daughter pulled out of her race? No, not really.

If there was any validity to Buddy Scotto's feeling victimized it would have to have been evident that Buddy Scotto never victimized anyone else. Buddy has threatened and intimidated many people that I know.

Also, from what I've heard, in the election from a few years ago, Brad Lander and John Heyer were running against each other, among others, but both Heyer and Lander were supported in one way or another by Buddy's apparatus. I think this is all just a little too close to home.

Something doesn't smell right. And it's not the NIMBY fear of the homeless, which is sort of innocent in its own way. It's the smell of political patronage.Fun for all Ageshttp://www.scottofuneralhome.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36892255.post-91993077902336492632012-10-25T13:21:53.185-04:002012-10-25T13:21:53.185-04:00I came in towards the end, but did get to see and ...I came in towards the end, but did get to see and feel the frustration and emotion in everyone. I also felt the blazing heat and stale air!! Was that on purpose?? Senator Squadron's point is so spot on. I live at smith and 9th, and am not apposed exactly to our neighborhood helping the city house it's homeless, but that stretch of street and building in particular seems like a horrible choice for 170 men...regardless if they are "employable" or not.
