New Pitched Roof At Cornelius Casey's 1st Place House

The new pitched roof

In late December, firemen pay a visit

Poor old Cornelius Casey. He could never have imagined what would become of his house when he lived here himself about 100 years ago.
His beautiful Brownstone at 90 First Place sure has been suffering at the hand of a rather careless contractor.
The conversion was a total gut job. To date, the site has amassed 14 complaints and the Buildings Department has slapped it with 8 violations.
If that's not bad enough, back in July, the roof collapsed after a heavy rain.
Now months later, the place finally has the framework for a new roof. But look, it's not flat. It's pitched. Strange, to say the least. One can see it clearly from Court Street, looking over North Fork Bank.
As I was taking these pictures in late December, a fire truck pulled alongside me. About 6 firemen got out and walked, you guessed it, right into 90 First Place.
Sure enough, one of the complaints about the roof was referred to the Fire Department.
I have no doubt that the condos will cost a pretty penny once they hit the market.

I wonder what Cornelius would say...

Is the roof visible from the facade? Is this legal?

The pitched roof is disturbing...I thought my building (on Dennet Place) was the only one in the neighborhood with one of these death traps atop it. Guess what happens when it snows more than a few inches??

First place is not Landmarked so even if it were visible from the front, it
would be o.k. But it underlines the need to landmark more of Carroll Gardens.
It is very visible though from the back on Court Street. Since the North Fork building is so much lower, you stare right at it.
Shelly,
Are you afraid its going to fall on top of you?
lets hope the winter stays mild!

sloped roof= sheding roof.
I would be very surprised if there is a gutter running alog both sides. this looks like a cheap developers special- extra head room and you dont have to pay for the plumbing to bring the water down off the roof, If i lived next door (where all the water will be dumped) I would be caling my lawyer and the DoB.
