Say What? "The Carroll Gardens" As Vacation Destination?

Anyone who has been reading this little blog of mine for a while knows that I care deeply for my Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens. Friends who come to visit seem to be enthralled by it as well. But would I call it a vacation destination? I don't think so!

Action Car Rental of Manhattan on the other hand seems to think that it's a fine vacation spot. On their site, they not only advertise themselves as " New York's finest selection of economy and exotic cars," they also offer links to various New York City destinations, obviously so that customers can decide where to take those nifty rental cars. One of the suggested tourist hot spots is "The Carroll Gardens."
I kid you not. Below is an excerpt of their long, superlative description of this little Brooklyn community. Make sure you visit their link. They go on and on about The C.G.

Hey Katia,

We have friends that live in Carroll Gardens.... and we do call it a vacation destination.

Or at least a great place to stop over for a visit before or after a trip. I don't think we'd ever get a rental car, but we've had some great walking tours guided by our friends.... and we love the convenience of the subways.... Not something we have much of here in California.

OK...maybe it IS better if you have friend there, but we do like your neighborhood.

Maybe it has to do with car rentalcompanies. In front of D'Amicos on Fridays there is often a Zip Car marketing campaign. Why D'Amicos when I asked - he said why not we like the coffee....

Ha! It is great coffee. I think I heard that there is a zip car rental garage someplace on Bond. So it would make sense to advertise in the neighborhood.

As far as Brooklyn as a vacatio hot spot, I can see coming here for the afternoon or visiting friends, but to spend a vacation like the ad implies?
Don't think so.

I agree with you Katia, great neighborhood, but "a vacation spot", that's a bit of strech...

Just coming back from Napa Valley, that's a vacation spot ;)

Napa Valley! Boy I wish I were there right now. Instead, I just told my husband to put on the heat! I was holding off, but it just got too cold in the house
