I Present: The Brooklyn Lamp-Phone-Clocks Of Brooklyn

oo

Is it a phone,
a lamp
or
a clock?
Don't know,
but it's made in Brooklyn

Now, dear reader, I hope that you find this kitschy item as wonderful as I do. In a sickly shade of green, speckled in brown, roman numerals and gold accent, it was made by the Trea- Boye Corporation in Brooklyn New York.

And can you imagine, I found a second one. And it is infinitely
more stylish than the first.
Have you ever seen, ( or perhaps owned) one of them ?
Do tell, do tell!

OMG!!! I MUST have one!

You and me both, girl!
Love the second one with the the more
"designer" shade...

According to the descriptions of similar items on ebay, it is not a phone. The receiver is actually a cigarette lighter. I wonder how many different models there were?

Kelly said...

A cigarette lighter? That makes this item even more fun.
And truly multi-functional ...
I figured that it did not really work as a phone since there was no way of dialing numbers.
I tried to find out something about the company, but so far, have had no luck. If you come across more of them on the web, let me know. Would love to add them to the post.

Very cool. I am personally more fond of the first one. I've seen phones with lamps but never with clocks, too. And if there lighters as well, well this smoker loves it even more!

I bought one of these lamps years ago. I am trying to find the current value if anyone knows. Due to hard times I need to sell some of my treasures, this lamp being among them. Anyone interested?

Good afternoon,
Your clock is similar to one I purchased in Maine..A bit more to add to the function of this wonderful piece is that the push button on the handle actually control a lighter for starting a cigar or cigartte..What will they think of next...Good luck,John

I have a pink phone lamp w/cigarette lighter. It looks like the turquoise one. I was wondering it's value. It is good working and physical condition. It used to belong to my grandmother. I was also wondering when it was manufactured. Can you help me with this?

I'm looking for the turquoise lamp with the venetian shade (manufactured by Trea-Boye). Anyone have one to sell at a reasonable price?

If anyone is interested in buying one of these please email ajdj8@midmaine.com and we will dicuss it. My wife owns one that looks like the bottom photo.

I have that top one.
Can anyone tell me if it's worth anything. Clock doesn't work, lamp just stopped working but the cigarette lighter works. The phone handle part is broken in two, looks like someone had it glued at one time. It was my Grandfathers which I think was giving to him by his grandfather. Sat on his table by the bed for years.

Dear Kelly,

I doubt highly that it was given to your grandfather by his grandfather as electricity would not have been invented by that time. Keep trying ebay to see what similar items sell for, or go to antique road shows website. They may be able to help you.

Best regards.

Hi. Maybe sombody can help me. I bought one of these lamps last week at a yard sale. A white one with the venetian shade. What a great conversation peice. The lighter does not work so I took the mouthpeice of and there are 2 black wires just laying in there not connected to anything and there is a black a wire and a red wire connected together. Do the 2 black wires go to the lighter or what? Seem like heavy wire to go to the 2 screws of the lighter. If anybody can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I am the proud owner of the lamp/lighter,that looks like the photo on top. The lamp belonged to my grandma, the lighter still works, I have to leave it unplugged due to children, I actually burnt myself on it when I was a child. Absolutely love the memories I have with this piece. Anyone know the price value? To me it is simply priceless!

Hi there,
I would look out for one on ebay. They sometimes come up for sale there. I agree, they are the coolest.

I have one that my parents owned.
It is white with black speckles and the venetian shade.
Currently the clock doesn't work and it is in need of a cleaning.
I would like to have it restored and keep it in the family, we have had it for over fifty years.

We were at an antique shop today and saw on for 350.00, are they really woth that???

Unknown said...

$350 seems really steep as cool as it is!!! I paid $90 for the one I bought today. It was marked at $120 and said it was in working condition. However, when I plugged it in it smelled horrible and then one of the wires started smoking.(not shocking as it is about 60 years old) Then I contacted the seller and asked if they could go any lower since it was no longer in working condition and they said 100 but then called back and said they could do 90. I was extremely excited because I have been looking for one for about 5 years! I hope the cost for rewiring is reasonable...

I have the exact lamp. The second one. It's in a closet. The lampshade needs re-jigging and I should have it rewired but have no idea where in Toronto. Mine has a lighter at the mouthpiece of the "receiver". My aunt had one in yellow. Are they valuable at all? I've been told not to touch the paint finish. Thanks.

I have this but I think the lamp portion has been broken since I bought it. Is it worth anything?
