No Shit: Dogs Not Allowed In Carroll Park Play Areas

oo
NO SHIT: NO DOGS ALLOWED IN PLAY AREAS.
NO EXCUSES. GET IT?

NOT IN THE ROCK GARDEN
NOT IN THE TODDLER AREA
NOT IN THE SPRINKLER AREA
NOT IN THE BIG KID AREA
DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON LEASHES AROUND THE MONUMENT
AND IN THE SITTING AREA ALONG SMITH STREET
GET IT?
Last week, a mother wrote to the Committee To Improve Carroll Park to say that her baby sitter had seen a lot of dog feces in the toddler play area of the park. As a member of the committee, I reached out to the Parks Department. Parks verified that the rules are clear:

No dogs are allowed in playgrounds or ball fields. Dogs on leashes are only allowed in Carroll Park's passive seating areas near the monument area and along the front of Smith Street.

To enforce the rules and to discourage rogue dog owners, new signs have been posted .

And just what makes you think signs will discourage "rogue dog owners"? You might visit Central Park or Prospect Park, both of which have lots of signs, during--or after--dog hours and see for yourself just what good they do.

Thanks for making that clear. ;)

We have a huge problem with our playgrounds being used for many purposes. What it will take, however, is other neighbors to back-up the signs. Our parks staff rarely chase away vendors, adults without children, dogs, bikes, skateboards, and so on. It's up to other users of the park to speak up. You have to pick your battles, though. There are a lot of people with a lot of entitlement and anger out there. And I'm NOT talking about hipsters or parents from Park Slope.

And to Anonymous: I don't think the futility of signs should discourage us.

Dogs playing where they aren't allowed is wrong. You are correct. Signs are nice but you know what's better than signs? DOG PARKS! Where is the nearest dog park?

Most the dog crap comes from one lady, owner of two pit bulls, who walks around the park letting them shit anywhere they want and NEVER cleaning it up. She's rude and disgusting.

she owns two pit bulls. What else do you need to know about her? Her dogs say it all.

what exactly is wrong with pitbulls and there owners?
Shouldnt you be more worried about the dog's ingeneral instead of bashing a breed? isnt the dog feces the issue?
Which by the way, the new signs were a great idea : )

Funny - the lady in the picture with the large greyhound was just in the park this morning.

Guess what? The dog had a collar and a lead. Guess what else... the owner WASN'T Holding Either!!! and the dog ran to chase a rodent!!!

10 feet away from this duo... a lady with a Golden who her her dog pee at the tree just in front of the swing entrance!

It's not the pets, it's the owners!!

Here we are. Seven years later. Still dogs off-leash all over the park, especially in the ball-field / basketball & soft-ball areas.
Since super Storm Sandy 2 of the 3 large signs have come down, and EVERY sign you show in your post is gone & replaced with signs that tell parents not to stomp on the flowers.
I understand that a "Friend of Carroll Park" member purposely had these signs replace the No Dog signs. Why? Why can't here be both? Why can't the signage that came down with the fences be replaced at the Ball Field?

I can assure you that the dog signs were. Ir removed by members of Friends of Carroll Park. The No Dog Signs are torn down as soo as the Parks Department puts them up by dog owners.
We should ask Parks for new ones. Its their responsibility and their rules.
