Vandals Leave Path Of Destruction On Court Street

oo

Three teens were running wild on Court Street at 2 Am this morning, overturning newspaper stands at the corner of President Street, throwing planters they found in front gardens onto the street, and smashing the Marco Polo Valet Parking sign right through the back of this car, parked at the corner of Union and Court.

As I was taking these photos this morning, a passer-by shook his head and said:
"Someone was bored last night."

Bored and stupid, is more like it.

Having just come out of a situation where a truck backed into my parked car and tried to leave (thank you, neighbors!), I have to say this sort of behavior drives me nuts. The damage to my car ended up costing over $4K, which I couldn't afford to repair myself. While the back window and residual costs probably wouldn't amount to as much, it's still a sweet pile of cash, especially if you only have liability.

Hopefully some camera or person caught these "bored and stupid" vandals so they can be compelled to pay up in time, cash, and shame.

Seriously stupid. Just Google the name "Joe Chirico" if you don't know what I'm talking about...

ok, so this was a deliberate job - not just some random act - to make a point. scary.

So now teens are overturning bins as well as smashing cars to make points for connected members of our community?

Interesting.

points are being made but who is making them and what their motives are we cannot really be sure of.

I think it's more the case of Low Police Presence and even LOWER mob presence.

If the area was as "Mobbed Up" (like people love to think it is) this stuff WOULDN'T happen. The same thing happened in Bensonhurst over the past 8 years. The weaker the mob presence the higher the vandalism rate.

The days of protection money & point making is long gone in Carroll Gardens. This is just a case of BAD kids and poor police patrol methods.

"Funny" Story - About a year ago my wife & I heard then saw a drunk man continuely smash the top & hood of a car (from our Carroll Gardens bedroom window) at about 3:a/m.

We of course called the police and 3 patrol cars pulled-up. They spoke to the guy (who was obviosuly drunk) and were about to send him on his way - he still had the brick in his hand.

My wife called from our window, "he's the guy who was smashing that car with that brick he's holding." The responce from the police officer, "Get away from the window and go back to bed!"
My wife, "But we're the ones who called you?!" Police, "Did you hear what I said, mind your business or we'll take YOU in!"
FYI - they let the guy just walk away! Our tax dollars at work!!

So, my question is, where were the police patrols during this time known as "Mischief Night"?
It starts in the wee hours on the day before Halloween and ends early in the morning of Halloween Day.

So i hope they catch these kids or drunks because this is a great neighborhood that dose not need any vandalism jerks

I agree, Joe Chirico has done alot for the caroll gardens area and to say that rediculous comment is just stupid it has nothing to do with the sistutation. This could have happened outside of anyones restaurant. These kids just had nothing better to do and were a**holes.
