Il Cuntuccio Brick Oven Pizza Coming To Corner Of Smith & 9th Streets
According to a sign in 478 Smith Street's storefront window, Il Cuntuccio Brick Oven Pizza is coming to that location. I haven't ventures to the end of Smith Street for a while, so I don't know exactly how long the sign has up. (Does anyone know?)
The storefront at the corner of 9th Street, was until recently the home of an Uncle Louie G's Ice cream store. It never attracted much business, maybe in part because the building at # 478 has to be one of the ugliest new additions to Carroll Gardens.
The 2007 'step-ladder' building was designed by Brooklyn architect Henry Radusky, of Bricolage Designs. Back then, Brownstoner called it "butt-ugly and " a "Bricolage Piece o'Crap". I couldn't agree more. Maybe the glow of Il Cuntuccio's brick oven fire will give this austere-looking building a wee bit of warmth.
Oh, and if you want to own this Carroll Gardens' unique piece of ugliness, you can currently buy the entire building for $2,099,999 here.
Or you can save and buy it for $100,000 cheaper here.

The competition for the most "butt-ugly" new building in Bloomberg/Developer Land is tighter than an speed skater's spray-on suit.
"cuntuccio" so THAT'S what it reads...
sign has been up for a few weeks now.
louie g's got traffic. it also got robbed and then the DOH further cut into any profits so the owners said screw it. which is too bad. because boy did i give it traffic...
Louie Gs wasn't in this storefront. It was in the small storefront on 9th street. There is a barber in there now. This storefront has been vacant since the building was completed.
I just saw this blog referenced & linked on another blog site. It's very cool to see "Our Blog" referred to by others.
By the way, if you're looking for BRICK-OVEN Pizza a little closer to Carroll Park, check The Red Rose on Smith Street. They often have it as a Special.
Tony (the 70+ year old owner) has been making pizza in Carroll Gardens for 40 years. 25+ years at The Red Rose (which has it's Original Brick Oven) and another 15 years, prior, in his shop on Cheevier Place.
Does anyone remember his Cheevier Place storefront before he opened the Red Rose?
Katia, you should do a blog on that! OMG - the stories from that place!!
