After nine years, Caserta Vecchia, the Italian brick oven restaurant at 221 Smith Street has closed for renovation, as a sign in the window indicated. However, when it reopens, it will be under new management. That, one would presume, means that there will be a new name and menu as well.
The restaurant was owned and run by Lina D'Amato and her two daughters Rina and Marilyn. They opened in 2002, but after only 8 days in business, fire broke out at the location. After repairs, it re-opened in earnest in February 2003.
I frankly never ate at Caserta Vecchia. Was it any good?
I do seem to remember eating there long ago, when it was still a Spanish restaurant, I think.
