Be Careful! Woman Robbed At Knifepoint On Court Street Last Night

oo

Even in a safe New York City neighborhood like Carroll Gardens, crime happens. Just last week, the  Court Street branch of Capital One Bank was robbed. Now comes the more disturbing news that a woman was held up at knifepoint last night at 11:30 pm on Court Street at the corner of 4th Place near Mazzone Hardware store. The store's cameras captured the robbery and the 76th Precinct is involved.

The victim, a Carroll Gardens resident, has posted a warning on Facebook to make sure others are vigilant.  She writes:
"Brooklyn Friends, I was robbed at knife point last night at around 11:30 pm in Carroll Gardens.  The police precinct says these attacks are on the rise. Please be careful. "

The attack involved two young males "in their early 20s,"who "came out of nowhere." There was a brief struggle during which the victim pleaded with the attackers to please let her go home to her children.

Thankfully, she escaped the experience unharmed, though she is shaken and scared. "Please be safe and alert. This is a crazy world we are living in. My heart is broken," she writes.

What a terrifying experience to go through.  We join the many friends and neighbors who reached out to her to say that we are happy that she is safe and that we are  so sorry that this happened to her.

Any description of the attackers besides 20 year olds?

So did they actually rob her?

Yes, they robbed her. As for the description, I am amazed that the 76th Precinct has not released a photo from the video and issued an official description yet.

I also read another woman was previously robbed - with a box cutter - Feb 12 @ 8:40pm on Clinton & 1st Pl.
Scary, and unfortunately sensing a pattern...

so very sorry, horrible for you and to think of. i'm so used to getting off subway at 2nd place and feeling fine walking home. very sad. we get lots of publicity which is and isn't good for crime, it seemed everytime a celebrity was noted in press as being in a local rest., a robbery would occur the next day --- seriously.

ouii. hope you, the victim, sorry to use the word, are faring well.

wow, we have been so 'spoiled'.

No more Italians in the neighborhood to keep the neighborhood safe. This didnt happen years ago.

Never been held up but I can't help but wonder how difficult it might be to get stabbed when you're running away.

I asked a patrolman yesterday if they've made a connection with this Mazzone robbery and the Clinton one, and he honestly said he hadn't heard about the Mazzone one but knew there was another recent robbery on Bond & Sackett...! Argh. Crime is definitely on the rise and I still have yet to see Cops on the beat (or providing a description)!

Why didn’t she give a description of the attackers in her Facebook post? She’s not helping her neighbors by leaving that out!
And a mugging on 1st and Clinton with a box cutter last week too.
Yea this is still nyc but what the fuck is going on in the neighborhood lately.

This is terrible and I hope the victim will be ok.

We need to put this into perspective, though, and look at some numbers. Here is the most recent CompStat report for our local precinct.

https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_statistics/cs-en-us-076pct.pdf

While the numbers do not diminish the impact of this attack, it shows a long downward trend in robberies from 132 in 2001 to 48 for all of 2017. [We can take the numbers with a grain of salt, but I think we can use them for trends.] There is a slight uptick this year to date (from 4 to 6), but there is no crime wave.

We still live in one of the safest neighborhood in all of New York. We should always be careful

Thank you for sharing the stats link, however, it shows that there are more than double the crimes this year than last year.

@Jim - have you ever been held up at knife-point? Just wondering if someone who can make such an asinine comment is speaking from experience.

Regarding the CompStat report.

Do not believe what you read.
I know for a fact that NOT ALWAYS the 76 Precint report all the crimes and they do this in order to have a low profile.

This is not something new, it had always happened.
The crime rate had raise a lot in Carroll Gardens, and like another person said, the fact that many Italians who used to protect the neighborhood left or die makes our neighborhood very unsafe.

Another robbery at knifepoint at Court and 3rd place at 6:40 in the evening! (Via Citizen app) What is going on. In the neighborhood for 20 years and I don’t ever recall this many robberies especially not at 6:40 in the evening with lots of folks out and about.

Hi! There is a community meeting at the 76th precinct on Wednesday at 730pm. The community liaison officer encouraged everyone w concerns to show up. Hopefully we will hear facts at the meeting along with what the precinct is doing to help stop this. Of course we are in the city- this happens- but it’s been pretty common lately.
