Mike and Kelvin of Garden Apothecary

Many residents in the neighborhood were petty upset by the recent closing of Clinton Apothecary, a family-owned business that had been operating at 420 Clinton Street for the past 80 years.
Well, for all those who were saddened by the loss of yet another independently-owned pharmacy in Carroll Gardens,  there is some good news.  Just before the holidays,  Garden Apothecary opened its doors at 525 Court Street.
Garden Apothecary is owned by Kings Pharmacy on Hudson Street in Manhattan,  which,  according to its web site, is one of  the "few independent pharmacies that is as big as a chain."

Not only will Garden Apothecary feature a full pharmacy, it offers everything that Rite Aid on Smith Street and CVS on Court Street offer, but in a much nicer layout and with friendlier service. And they will deliver.   The store is stocked with homeopathic products, personal care products, as well as gifts, cards, and snacks.

It is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and especially to that end of Court Street. I am sure it wil thrive.

  2. Wasn't there a deep dish pizza place at the President /Clinton St location where Clinton Apothecary was? With windows along the side on President. I ate there a few times. Did the Apothecary just expand and close up the windows?

  3. Kings on Hudson St caters to the rich in Tribeca. It's part boutique of overpriced last-minute gifts and part pharmacy. It reminded me of Neergard a bit.

    So this is Carroll Gardens.

  4. That pizzeria was awesome. Made the thinnest crust pie. Whet it closed, Clinton just took over the space and expanded.

  5. I love the recent additions to this end of Court Street.

Also as a head's up, it very much looked like Me And My Egg Roll (Chinese take out spot on the corner of Court/2nd) was closing down yesterday.

  7. Cristardi's - great pizza and whole roasted garlic. Ahead of it's time.

  8. That's right. Yes, amazing pizza and I remember yelling at my husband because he would eat most of the head of garlic on his own.

  10. There was a great family owned pharmacy on Bedford. In Willimasburg. An ugly glass box went up across the street. They leased the ground floor to a Duane Reade.
I don't think I need to say what happened.
I guess Carroll Gardens, now, needs all these banks because it's become "affluent" and all the drug stores so people can get relief from sticker shock.

  13. There's still a Kings Pharmacy on Flatbush Avenue in Park Slope across from Franny's. Prices are HALF what they are at the Duane Reade across the street.
