Tony in his now closed hardware store in June 2014
The inevitable happened this week-end. Tony's is now closed for good.
A PMFA reader wrote in to say:
"Tony's Hardware on Smith St closed on Saturday. Most of the store was cleared out but the remaining stock was 50% off. He said he planned to donate the rest. It was a great store since 1995 (and before that he worked at the now closed hardware store next door). He said he planned to retire but had no specific plans. His staff had moved on already to other jobs."
Apparently, El Milagro, a jewelry, gift, and home decor store which opened a holiday pop-up store across the street at 180 Smith Street, will be taking over the space Tony just vacated.
Tony always packed lots of inventory into his store and seemed to carry every tool or product necessary to get any job done. Tools, paint, shopping carts, and plants, Tony's had it all. He and his store will be very much missed in the neighborhood.

Too bad, that was a good hardware store. But if he is retiring, and had no plans to sell the business, that is his right. I hope he enjoys his retirement. The good thing is that he was not forced to close for rent hike, lack of business, etc. There is still Bruno, and my favorite; Mazzone to pick up the slack.
ReplyDeleteHe was open today
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how to get ahold of Tony? I wanted to contact him about the Lincoln bust he used to display in the front window.
ReplyDeleteAny help would be greatly appreciated in the matter!!
