I am sorry to report that Bocca Lupo, the popular rustic Italian eatery and drinking spot at 391 Henry Street at the corner of Warren Street has recently closed its doors. It had been operating at this spot since 2006.
Reader David S. contacted PMFA to share the sad news. He sent the photo above of the closing notice that is currently hanging in Bocca Lupo's window.
He writes: "Heard they had been struggling. Sad to see it close. I was a fan."
Nine years for a restaurant these days seems to be a long run. Obviously, Bocca Lupo did lots of things right.
Were you a fan? Will you miss it?
So sad to hear this. Bocca Lupo was a dear family favorite for us. The kids who always called it Warren Street loved it as much as their grandparents and we did.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been this bummed since the French Deli, where Ted & Honey is now, closed.
Yes, 9 years is a good long run. They always seemed pretty busy. I hope they move on to something equally successful.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my last favorite places in the neighborhood. Always open, always dependable. My daughter doesn't know a world without Bocca Luppo's mac and cheese, which is the only mac and cheese she will eat. I never did figure out the recipe. I might finally have to walk into Strong Place and beg him to give it to me.
ReplyDeleteOh No! I had no idea!!! One of my favorite and go to places.
ReplyDeleteWill not miss it. Whenever I paid the bill, the employees would always give me the incorrect change. (Once or twice, I would have chalked it up to a mistake but not when it happened every time.) The last time I went, I called it to the waitress' attention (the customer next to me said that they always did the same thing to her), and the waitress acted like it was no big deal and blamed it on the owner not leaving them enough money to make change and saying, "You'll just leave it as a tip, anyway." (!) Had I called the city, the restaurant would have been fined, at the very least. I called the owner instead and he never called back. Apparently, he didn't care that his employees were scamming his customers.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am surprised. I always saw it full of people.
ReplyDeleteWill be missed, best Nutella dessert ever!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck
Mediocre food at best. Won't be missed.
ReplyDeletewe dined here on our very first night living in brookyln, almost six years ago.
ReplyDeletethey welcomed us to the neighborhood with two glasses of prosecco as a gift. thank you, bocca lupo.
I will totally miss it. We don't eat dairy or meat and they always had delicious food for my husband and I to share. :(
ReplyDeleteLoved it. Sad to see it go. Way more interesting and tasty food than the endless run of yuppie pizza and $20 hamburger joints we're getting now.
