Miele, the cat.
One of Carroll Gardens' friendliest store cats its urgently looking for a new home. Miele, a female tabby with white markings, has delighted many in the neighborhood by sunbathing in the shop window of Expert Appliance Center at 293 Court Street for the past few years. On November 1, the appliance store will be moving to 212 Smith Street, but the landlord at the new location, who lives in the building, is allergic to cats. So is the son of the appliance store owner, otherwise, he would take Miele to his home.
Miele, who is named after the German manufacturer, whose appliances are sold at the store, is a real character and as friendly as can be. She is is 7 years old. Her only quirk: she does not like dogs.
The owner and the employees at the store are committed to finding her the best home.
Any wonderful locals out there who would like to adopt Miele and keep her right here in the neighborhood? Please, please?
That's BS. I don't buy it. And isn't this cats name Mila?! Or did Mila die? Or is Miele pronounced "Mila".
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad. He's had the cat for years. The landlord can't possibly smell a cat from his bedroom.
Please. Someone take Miele. I have cats already. I'm so sad.
No one living in luxury houses takes a bus.
ReplyDeleteThis is baloney. Let them keep the cat. The dander can't rise through the floorboards, for goodness sake, and won't affect them in any way. Forcing an animal to lose its home is cruel. When you bring one into your life, it's your responsibility to care for them to the end. To me, this would be a deal breaker.
ReplyDeleteThey will throw this cat out. I guarantee it.
ReplyDeleteThat's harsh, Anon. They seemed really concerned about finding the cat a good home, so let is not jump to conclusions, please.
DeleteI am between cats. My apartment is small and messy but there is a window. My last cat was 15 and i would be happy to have an older, settled lady, like me. I will try to drop by the store and talk to the guys.
ReplyDeleteThatbis awesome, Unknown. Please let us know what happens. Miehle is truly delightful.
DeleteMiele is the sweetest store cat I have ever met. If I didn't have a cat with FIV, I would scoop her up in an instant! When I first met Miele, I knelt down to pat her head and she immediately climbed into my lap, snuggling into my coat! It attracted a passerby who witnessed it all and she was so charmed she took photos...
DeleteI hope whoever adopts Miele posts photos here! I will miss her adorable presence on Court street!
What about the parrot they used to have in the back?
ReplyDeleteApparently, the owner of the store is taking the parrot to his home.
ReplyDeleteHe would never ditch the cat. He adopted her from the aspca. Although it is total BS that the landlord won't allow her. What? He has to walk inside his shop and rub his face in her fur? He should take the cat home. His son will be fine. I hope the woman takes her. She's a good kitty. And would probably love to be in an actual home/ apartment. Not a storefront.
ReplyDeleteI will ,too. Really hope someone gives her a loving home. Stopped by the appliance store yesterday. No one has taken her yet and I am starting to worry.
ReplyDeleteI am the between-cats person and I talked to the owner today. I will visit tomorrow and I hope to offer her a home. Will let you know if it works out. She has a great face!
ReplyDeleteYes, please do. That would make so many people very happy.
DeleteMiele is the best cat!! Please let us know how this works out...she has a lot of fans
DeleteMiele has agreed to come sit in my eindow -- fir good! I think theguy agreed to let me hace her because I am an old customer.
DeleteBest news ever! I need a photo of Miele in your window. Would love to let others know she is safe.
ReplyDeleteDid you take her home already?
I was wondering the same thing...Miele has the perfect name. Not only does "Miele" translate to "honey" in Italian, she sit above a Miele tag in the window everyday. Please post photos!
ReplyDeleteMiele came home with me at 5 today. She spent four careful hours smelling every object in the room, then got on my lap. So far so good. The last cat I adopted spent days hiding under the couch!
ReplyDeleteVery, very cool. I love this community.
DeleteI'm glad that Miele has a nice new home! However, to be honest, I've been very, very sad, and even a little panic today learning that I would never see her again. My husband and I moved here 3 years ago and I really don't know anybody else in Brooklyn. Seeing and talking to Miele has become a great comfort and joy for me. Most of times we went out for a walk after dinner just to see her. I love her dearly! Is there any way that the new owner can share Miele's pictures with us, through social media sites, etc.? That will save my life!

Hello, Yufang, I think we met the day I picked up Miele. I have a Facebook page under the name of C. Claiborne Ray and Aleks has already friended me to follow Miele's progress. I spoil her -- just a little -- because the purpose of cats is to make them happy. There are a few pictures of her if you drill down on my page. Miele sleeps up to 18 hours a day in her cat tree, which my four previous cats ignored. I am so glad I kept it. She loves her Greenies! She is nocturnal and greets me at the door when I return from an evening out. We have Greenies and playtime and cuddles. She is a very nice cat.
