The Bark Avenue Adopt-A-Thon in Carroll Park this past Sunday was an amazing success as many cats and dogs were matched with caring people who opened their hearts to give them a loving home to call their own.   The theme of this year's event was "Disco Dog Fever", and dogs big and small strutted their stuff on the red carpet to 70s music.

This wonderful annual event was sponsored by Douglas Elliman and organized by Marion Fiore from the agency's Carroll Gardens office.
A big thank you to Marion and to the pet rescue organizations who took part in this year's Bark Avenue Adopt-A-Thon.  An even bigger thanks goes to those who adopted a new pet yesterday.
If you did, we would love to hear from you and find out how your new furry friend is settling in.

Spring has arrived in Carroll Park as hundreds of daffodils are currently in full bloom in one of Brooklyn's oldest parks. If you have not yet walked by, you should. Just in time for warmer and sunnier days, two very popular events have been scheduled in our neighborhood's green oasis.

The first is the Bark Avenue Adopt-A-Thon on Sunday, April 29th from 1 pm to 5 pm. (Rainday is May 6th). If you have been thinking about adopting a four-legged friend, this is your opportunity to meet some great dogs and cats looking for a home. And even if you can't provide a home for a pet, please come out and support the wonderful rescue groups that will be taking part in this event.

From the organizers:

Come join us for a blast from the past for this year’s 70’s ‘Disco Dog’ theme! Brooklyn’s own ‘Brian Travolta’ is sure sure to show us some moves this dog day afternoon! We have lots of fun activities this year including a puppet show by the Mayor’s Alliance For NYC’s Animals, An agility course by Dogboy and a pup photo booth by Mobile Mutts to name a few!

The second event this spring is Friends Of Carroll Park's annual Carroll Park Fair on Saturday, May 19th.
This is the non-for-profit group's main fundraiser. It enables FoCP's volunteers to do all their great work in the Park -- movie nights, karaoke, the Halloween party, all the plantings, and more.

Come on out, support your park and have a great time doing it! Meet your neighbors, find bargains, empty your wallet. There will be live music, face painting and more.

If you want to reserve a space for the fair where you can clear out your closet, promote your business or sell your product (sorry, no food or drink sales), contact Friends of Carroll Park at 917 574 0745 for more information. 10' x 10' spaces are only $35. But don't wait. The spaces fill up super fast.

Let's hear a round of applause for Carroll Gardeners! Ten cats and about nine dogs found their forever home at yesterday's 'Bark Avenue Adopt-A-Thon' in Carroll Park.

The yearly event was as fun as ever, with Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) and other organizations bringing lots of wonderful available animals to the park. This year’s theme for the Bark-a-thon was 'Vintage Travel!" First class canine passengers walked down a red-carpet to 'em-bark' on “Bark Airways.” Their final destination? A loving home.

A huge thank you to Douglass Elliman for sponsoring and to Marion Fiore for organizing the event. Her dedication and hard work is very much appreciated.
Marion provided us with a list of all the dogs that got adopted. (Sorry, the cats did not have names.)

Sugar Mutts:
Bandit- a spunky chihuahua
Chewy - a blue and brown eyed shitzu
Morgan - a pit puppy with 3 legs
Cinnamon - an adorable cinnamon concoction

Alice - an exotic Egyptian gal - part Bengal and Wolfhound mix
Baby- a basenji babe
