I don't know about you, but every time I see Marietta's roll-down gate closed with a notice taped to it, I get nervous. After all, this mom-and-pop shop has been a fixture on Court Street since 1940 in Carroll Gardens and the neighborhood just would not be the same without it.
What relief when I read the note attached on the gate this time around. Turns out, Joe Chirico, the wonderful 90+ year old owner is taking a vacation. Let us hope Joe re-opens his wonderful old-fashioned neighborhood store on the 19th and is enjoying some well deserved time off.

Phew! I'm glad I saw this first!
Glad I dropped in last week to get the family new undies for the New Year. They deserve a winter holiday now.
Neighbors! If you love Marietta's so much, please frequent this business! Buy your tee shirts and socks there! If you have a grandma, get her a house coat. Seriously we all love what is left of the real CG, but have to shop in these places if they are to remain viable!
Any news on Marietta's? My husband went by yesterday to get some jeans, during business hours, but the gate was down and mail was piling up.
Oh, no! I dread the day we find out it is closed for good.
Will try to check it out.
