Once upon a time, there was a yellow vinyl-sided house on Sackett between Smith and Court. It was not a nice house, having lost its brownstone facade a long time ago, if it ever had one. A very nice family from Alexandria, Egypt lived there. The children went to school with mine. So imagine my surprise when the whole house was missing the last time I walked down the block. Gone is the yellow house, the lovely family, replaced simply by a yellow excavator. There is another empty lot right next to it. I wonder what is planned there and if they will build on both parcels. The work permit just mentions demolition.

I realize this is a very old blog entry, but the family was not Egyptian.
Palestinian and proud.
