Bad, Bad, Bad Brooklyn Neighbors?

I just discovered something truly scary. There is a website called "Rotten neighbors" on which you can post comments about your neighbors!
I happened to stumble upon it and of course immediately checked if the people next door have written something nasty about me.
What relief! Either they have not found the site yet or have truly nothing bad to say about my little family.
I suppose that the site can provide a real service when you are looking for a house. After all, wouldn't it be nice to know that the people living next door to a house that you are about to buy for mucho bucks aren't totally rude or dysfunctional?

But there is something creepy about this site. Do we really need to know that much about each other? And who monitors the site? Can anybody randomly leave nasty information just for the fun of it?
It is more than a bit disturbing to me that the comments are posted per address using a Google Map. Yes folks, your neighbor can divulge some negative info about you and attach the info to your home address. You have to admit, that's downright scary. After all, do I really need to know that in the 400's on Court:

"There's this annoying couple that keep playing the same music over and over. I hate the Smith's! Please stop!"

or that someplace on Union

"Although it may not look like much, this neighbor has decided that maintaining open bins of stagnant water are a benefit to the community at large. In doing so, he has crafted his own special super-species of mosquitoes that swarm this entire block. Thanks, friendly neighbor, my West Nile infection may be attributed directly to you!"

Scary indeed!

I would think that most of the people posting about their bad neighbors are tenants. I doubt that most property owners would do something that could diminish their property value. There could also be some lawsuits in the making depending on the circumstances of a post.
