Clarett Gets First Stop Work But Finally Wants To Meet The Neighbors!

oo

With it's first Stop Work Order under its belt at 340 Court Street, the Clarett Group, is planning to finally do what it has promised for a long, long time: meet with the community to "unveil" the plans for the site.
According to Vincent Joseph of the Union-Sackett Association, Clarett representatives will meet with Carroll Gardens residents

on Thursday, April 3 at 7 PM at P.S.58.

Pardon me for asking, but why did it take Clarett so long? They should have shown the community the plans for the proposed townhouses and condominium building months ago.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see the architectural drawings. It should be an interesting meeting.

#1 - At their first meeting with the Union Sackett Block Association and assorted other community members back in December Clarett promised to hold an open meeting for the community once they had made some progress on the design. At the time, they estimated that this would be around March. So it actually looks to me like they are right on time.

#2 - The problem with timing on these types of meetings is that if you present them very early, before you've made any design progress, then people like you will complain that the developer didn't really come to the meeting armed with any information and didn't show you their plan. If you present them once you've made design progress, then people like you will complain that it took too long until the meeting happened and the developer's plan is written in stone and he's not interested in hearing your input. There's no way to win with people like you.

3) My understanding is that the project is as-of-right, so Clarett doesn't need to meet with the community at all. They are doing this as a courtesy because they want to be good neighbors. When someone is going out of their way to do you a favor, it's kind of crappy to respond with, "How come it took so long?" Don't you think? If that's how you react whenever anyone does you a favor, then you I imagine pretty soon people will stop doing you favors altogether.
