The Chant Of A Carroll Gardens Mockingbird

oo
IMG_3939

Over the loud hum of traffic,
A very small creature insistently sings his song.
It is a mockingbird.
See it right there, sitting on the limb of a berry bush.
He seems disappointed that his chant is ignore.
For only if you stand still and listen for a while
Do you appreciate his vocal talent?

One of these guys drove me CRAZY last year. I was impressed, I admit, but the darn bird would sing outside my window for hours, starting at midnight. This went on for weeks!

As cool as this is, I have to say I'm glad he's not outside my window (especially not at midnight).

Katia, thanks for posting this audio. I've always wanted to hear a mockingboard so it was good to get this little snippet. Now... what's the bird that starts singing in the spring that sounds like a siren, but moves in and out of different songs? I always thought that was a mockingbird but the sounds you posted were unfamiliar.

Another question? How did you record the sound? A tape recorder or would a cell phone capture it?

I have an idea, I'm often stunned at bird songs around the back yards and on the roofs but I have no idea what they are. How about capturing some of these songs and seeing if others can identify them? Katia, what do you think? Mary

Hi Mary
I really like that idea.

Mockingbirds always sound different, since they imitate the sound around them. I am quite sure the ones you mention is a mockingbird as well.

I only have a little camera feature on my regular photo camera, sufficient enough just to tape little snippets of video. I then just transfer them to a hosting site.
