Picture Of The Day: Bird And Blooms

oo

Sitting amidst the blooms of my neighbor's peach tree
and the crisscrossed telephone wires,
a female cardinal takes a break
from building her nest
in my garden.

Is that a female red robin or a female cardinal?

You know, you are right.
Will change it immediately.
The male has been hanging out in my garden as well. They are quite the pair!

That's definitely a female cardinal. The red robin does not have a red face and beak with black markings.

I have never seen as many cardinals as I have this year. I also hear them calling very fequently early morning and early evening. It's a very distinct call. Wonder if this is unusual? Use to be I would see 2 or 3 at this time and think that was luckey.

Actually, cardinals have been plentiful in CG for a number of years. I don't ever recall seeing any while I was growing up, but they're a beautifully welcome addition to our neighborhood. In fact, I don't ever remember during my childhood seeing/hearing mockingbirds, woodpeckers, bluejays, robin redbreasts...we must be doing something right to attract and keep them!

Birds are a sign of the Holy Spirit and this neighborhood is truly blessed.

Send blessings and so happy that spring is finally here. If you're not into the Holy Spirit that's of course fine. Important to recognize blessings whichever words or feelings we use.

I do however take issue with the same mockingbird that is full of mischief and has woken me up two nights in a row. Please give it a rest for one night cause I get it already. Yes, the natural world is all around us and your singing is a profound reminder. This is mating season after all, but you are waking up the other birds and a symphony ensues all over wide streets full of trees for you and everyone else. Send sweet dreams to us all.
