Heavy Rains = ( More) Grossness In the Gowanus Canal

oo

Oh, the things that float on the Gowanus Canal after a few heavy days of rain. Some of them may make you blush, dear Reader.
Pretty disgusting, no?
Right here in our neighborhood, too.
These photos were taken yesterday afternoon from the Carroll Street Bridge.

Hard to imagine that this is happening in 2009, New York City, don't you think?

Ewwww. At least someone is practicing safer sex (unless it was too close to the canal).

this has been going on since the year of the flood (lol). seriously though, this stuff does happen after a heavy rain--why are you so surprised?

this canal is disgusting ... and why would you take a picture of a used condom floating in the water? There are probably dead bodys floating somewhere in there too ... Question Of The Day: Would u snap a picture of the body before you dialed 911? ... or call 911 first and then snap the picture?

She is taking photos of a condom to SHOW that the water needs cleaning up!

If everyone called 911 when a condom was spotted the lines would be clogged. That is a COMMON site, as well as tampons and sewage.

Also, the analogy to a dead body is ridiculous, of course Katia would call 911, duh!!!

Sorry anon, I am fully aware of the legacy of bodies dumped in the canal and to discount your assumption,I am NYC born and bred few miles from here in Queens where if you wnat to compare, we also have our fair share of bodies dumped,Gotti country you know.....I know 15 years does not make a "true" Brooklynite, they are zenophobic (look it up) in Queens too...

PARDONN MEE FOR ASKINGG F.I.B - But what makes you think that i don't know know what zenophobic means? ... Is that suppose to scare people that you live in "Gotti Country"? Are you now "hardcore" .... That seems alittle closed minded don't you agree? ... and fyi 15 years is nothing you have no idea what true brooklyn is about .. you hipsters ruined carroll gardens

F.I.B is definitely not a hipster although I am sure F.I.B wouldn't mind having requisite hipster trust fund.

Anon 4:15 - you got some downer attitude - and what's the rag about Ohio? Living or being from New York does not inherently make one superior to the rest of the world. Not even close.

i don't think that anon4:15 is implying that new yorkers are superior; but it does seem that the 'newbies' act as if they were. the 'out-of-towners' do have a condescending attitude towards the natives. they seem to 'know-it-all' about the nabe when in fact, they DO NOT! and as for their voices--i agree, they seem to all sound the same, with clothespins tightly pinching their noses!

i'm just sayin' said...

Stella and anon sound like the same person.

stella said...

we are not the same person--just native new yorkers!
