Meet The Brooklyn Pooch (And The Humans) Behind "Backyard For Bongo"

oo

Meet Bongo

Bongo, the one-year-old Boston Terrier Bulldog mix is the inspiration behind "Backyard For Bongo," a wonderful new greeting card business by Brooklyn Heights residents Jenny and Chris Stevenson.

You see, Bongo, the pup, is rather rambunctious and according to Jenny and Chris, her owners , "she snorts constantly. She destroys every toy. She eats everything in her path. She ate the couch, desk, rug and bed. But she gives unlimited licks. And when we come home - she is the happiest monster on the planet."

What Bongo really needs, Jenny and Chris realized, is a backyard of her own. In order to one day be able to give Bongo that outdoor space, the couple created a series of very unique and whimsical cards.
Jenny writes:

"We got the idea for our cards when we were married last summer. In writing our wedding thank you cards, we started noticing a theme, that our notes were starting to sound formulaic. We thought it would be funny to devise a template with blanks that we could fill in depending on the gift and the person (for example, 'Dear ______, We really appreciate your ______ gift. The ______ will be perfect for our _______', etc.). That was our first card, a fill-in-the-blank wedding thank you. We've since gone on to create Baby Congratulations cards (works for a boy or a girl), Happy Birthday cards, I'm Sorry cards, Get Well cards, Valentine's Day cards, and even a Ba_ Mitzvah card, all of them fill-in-the-blank."

Take a moment to check out the couple's cards on their web site and to help Bongo get his play yard here backyardforbongo.com , on Etsy or at Papél, the papeterie at 225 Court Street.

nice images but the fill in the blank idea, a tad insincere and lazy no?

I think it's meant to be funny.

While I agree that I couldn't send a "Fill in the blanks" card to my relatives, my friends would get a kick out of these types of cards.

As someone who's been in the invitation 'industry' for 20 years I actually think it's funny. Especially the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ones. Certainly the epitome of all those over-the-top three-dimensional concoctions with ribbons, etc. that were so prevalent before people had to think about how to spend their money.
These fill-ins really make me smile, even if they may not ultimately be crowd pleasers.

My mistake...
That the Bar/Bat Mitzvah one is a GIFT card is even better !!!
