I know you are going to love this!

Joe and Marion Alameda of Perfect Corner, the custom picture framing store at 345 Smith Street, just started selling photographs taken in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood in the 1920's and 30's. As soon as they got the photos into their store, Joe and Marion called me to show them to me. You see, they know that I love neighborhood history just as much as they do.
Amongst the images are incredible shots of Carroll Park and of Smith Street, like the one above, of the corner of Sackett Street.

Marion, an avid reader of this blog smiled when she pointed at this particular image.

"You see, things haven't changed all that much since that time," she said, pointing at the dog lifting his leg against a newsstand in the image. (She was, of course, referring to a recent post of mine about dogs in Carroll Park.)
I agreed. The more things change, the more they stay the same...at least in carroll Gardens.

Make sure to stop by Perfect Corner to browse their collection. You won't regret it.
Joe will gladly custom frame one of the wonderful photos for you.

Hello Katia & Anyone else who may know...

Have you had framing work done here, and if so was it a good job?

Thanks.

Yes, absolutely. Had quite a few things framed by Joe and Marion.
And it was always beautifully done.
Marion is really great at helping customers pick out the right frame and matting for the picture.

Dear Raised In C.G.,

I always found that framing is never cheap, but some things are just worth framing.
Amongst the items Joe and Marion framed for me is a little oil painting that had a terrible black frame around it.
They did a beautiful job and every time I walk by the painting in its new frame, I am glad it is hanging on the wall, instead of being tucked away in a corner.

yes, very pricey.

We've been in business for 6 1/2 yrs due to quality work at a fair price. You are more then welcome to stop by for a quote.

I've worked with Joe and Marion for years and found their work to be excellent and their pricing to be fair. As far as pricey, I guess even $10.00 could be pricey to some people. I think it is also who you compare them to. They are a professional frame shop. I would expect to pay more for creativity and custom work than I would if I were buying a cheap frame at Target or Ikea

Can't wait to buy a pic of Cg

Thanks, everyone, for your answers.

I know professional framing is NOT inexpensive, however, there's a difference between "Competative Pricing" and "Carroll Gardens Pricing" LOL
Some of us still just Rent Here, not own;-)

Thanks Marion, we'll take you up on your offer to stop by with the art for some quotes.

BTW: When did you & Joe take over the shop?

Marion said...

From a fellow renter to another, we try very hard to keep our pricing competitive. We took over an empty storefront, that had been a family owned flower shop in 2003.

Thank you Marion,

But, I must have you confused with a different shop.

The shop I'm thinking of is a Corner Store that had already been a Framing Shop for many, many, many years. The shop I'm thinking of WAS a Flower Shop - but not since the late '70's or early '80's
It had been a Frame Shop since then. (Same "Family" owned the flower shop and THEN the Framing Place)
What's your address & cross Streets?

We are located at 345 Smith Street, at the corner of Carroll Street. Visit our website www.perfectcorner.com for all our information.

Hi Marion,

OK - We'll come in. We've already looked at your web-site. It's very nice and answers a lot of questions. We look forward to meeting you.

(FYI - Yours 'IS' the location I was thinking of. Although you rented an empty storefront, it had already been a Picture Frame Shop - AFTER it was a Flower shop. But I don't think they ever removed the Flower Frig.)
