Join PS 32 For "Bookstock II", A Benefit For The School's Library

oo

My friend Fran, who teaches at PS32, just sent me this information for a wonderful event the school is having in order to raise money for its library.
Spend a wonderful, fun-filled evening with your children and help get books into the hands of our neighborhood children. How sweet is that?

Read on:

The long awaited sequel to the 1st benefit concert for my school's library, BookStock II is here! 65 people attended BookStock I and we raised $1600 (New York State only provides $1700 for library books. That is only $6.25 per child which amounted to 114 books). Please join us and spread the word. We have another great band, The Ukuladies, with audience sing-a-longs, cheap bubbly, balloon animals, delicious bacon, and lottery tickets, what more could you want? The Ukuladies, a perpetually-touring, twin-sister, aunt, and one tap-dancing-cousin act from Regina, Canada. Bring the whole family! There will be baked goods, beverages, free raffles and even childcare with a movie! The Ukuladies' shows are adult only. What do you expect, they are Canadian!

For those of you not knowing the story of my library (or not bothering to have read it the 1st time) here it is:
I have been teaching at P.S. 32 for the last 7 years. This year I was made school librarian. We haven't had a working library since I've been at the school. Until this December, our current graduating class of fifth graders has gone their entire elementary education without ever having been able to check out a school book. Our library catalog is limited, mostly outdated, and our shelves are half empty. In the past, the room wasn't utilized as a library. It often appeared cluttered and decayed: books were shelved in a random and haphazard fashion, outdated books and encyclopedias remained on the shelves and until September we had a biography of Saddam Hussein from 1992 on the shelf, and the carpet was worn and filthy. But now that's all changing...

The next show will be on
Friday April 16th at 7pm (doors open at 6:30). Admission is a $10 donation that will go to purchasing much needed books, equipment, software and furniture.
