This Sunday Is 'Folly Day' At Red Hook's Valentino Park

oo

Unfortunately, the weather is not supposed to be good on Sunday, but if the clouds and the rain should hold off, I suggest we all head on over to Red Hook's Valentino Pier for 'Folly Day.' The event sounds like a blast. Read on:

2009
***Folly Day
(not a typo...read on)

Align CenterWhen: 2pm
Sunday April 25th, 2010

Where: Red Hook Brooklyn, in and around Valentino Park,

What:
It has been made clear that this next decade is going to be the decade of the Waltz. The official 2009 Folly Day Organizing Committee of Folly Day (
***shhh, don't tell them its already 2010, they refuse to believe that their year is only 365 days long, according to them today is April 325, 2009) has decided to make the 2009 Folly Day honor the uncoming waltz phenomenon.

A vision has come, a vision of a big green field next to the water, with hundreds of brass bands (give or take 95) playing beautiful waltzes together for thousands of waltzing couples. A vision then of bands playing for other bands, with the other bands inter-waltzing to brass bliss. A vision of the heavens opening up and bringing world peace and fresh yummy peaches to all.
Not in a band but want to view the spectacle?

Here's how.

1. Show up 2pm Sunday April 25th at Valentino Park in your fancy waltz school (as in school of fish, people, school of fish) attire.
2. Receive a map of the staging grounds, then go hunt down brass bands, who will be hunting down each other and competing for glory in the streets of Red Hook.
3. Attach provided fish (or bring your own paper fish!) to your favorite waltz school band

4. Meet back at Valentino Park for the waltz extravaganza, dance to waltzes from the Rude Mechanical Orchestra, the Hungry March Band, the special guests from Montreal, the Royal Frog Ballet, the Himalayas, and god knows who else, then dance to a waltz by all the bands at once!
5. Go to the after party, most likely at Bait & Tackle
