Long before there was a Pier 1 through 6 Park along the Brooklyn Heights shore of the East River, there were, of course, the shipping piers and warehouses. I just found these amazing photos of what the waterfront looked like in the 1910's. In the background, the skyline of Manhattan looks so very different than today.
The photo below is taken a bit later, I believe.
