If you have not yet visited Proteus Gowanus, the interdisciplinary gallery and reading room housed in an 1900 box factory in the thriving artist community of the Gowanus Canal, you should wait no longer. The gallery's June calendar is full of great events, including workshops of the Fixers Collective. So mark your calendar and check it out.
Proteus Gowanus June Calendar
Thursday, June 3, 7- 9 pm - Ipod Fixing Workshop with the Fixers Collective. If you have a 4th generation iPod (the ones featuring a clickwheel) that gives you a sad icon error, this workshop will teach you to take a confident stab at restoring it. Admission: $15.
Saturday and Sunday, June 6 & 7 pm - Atlantic Avenue Art Walk. Include Proteus Gowanus and our projects- and partners-in-residence, Morbid Anatomy Library, Reanimation Library, Observatory and the Hall of the Gowanus on your art tour through the neighborhood!
Saturday, June 12, 6 pm - Opening of Transport Phase III with Underwater NY. Curated withUnderwater NY, an online anthology of stories, art and music inspired by the underwater objects and phenomena that surround New York City, Transport Phase III will exhibit work inspired by these objects and their journeys through the waterways.
Friday, June 11 and Sunday, June 13 - Perform a Seance with Acep Hale, street magician, traveler, and rogue gentleman scholar. Journey to the other side or, for those who prefer this side, learn about the role of spiritualism in the 19th century women's movement. Admission: $10
Saturday, June 19, 7 pm - The Arctic Field Manual Vol. 1, a performance by Carolyn Lambertand Siobhan Rigg that weaves together texts, projected imagery and performed gestures to tell a story of local geography, sub-arctic territories, finding one's way, and trying to see what's right in front of you. Admission: $5
Transport, the yearlong exhibit exploring How We Get There in the never-ending journey toward our destinations, will close on Friday, July 16 with a party and parade. More details to come.
