Nobody is more involved in the Gowanus Community than my friend Betty Lester. She works tirelessly to represent her community and to make the lives of her neighbors better.
So it's not a surprise that she is helping to organize a toy drive for the children of Gowanus..

Please take a few moments to read her message below. And please, donate a new toy.
No child in our midst should have to spend the Holiday Season without a bit of cheer.

GOWANUS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION's FIRST ANNUAL TOY DRIVE

The Gowanus Neighborhood Association in partnership with Councilman Stephen Levin will launch its 1st Annual Toy Drive. Gowanus is an economically strained community and most of the children in the development are from low income/ at-risk households, and will not get any presents this year.

While we realize that in today's economy, everyone's finances are limited, we are petitioning all who can to donate or contribute at least one gift to an underprivileged child, boys and girls aged 1-12 years. We ask that all gifts be safe and unopened.
Toy Drop-Off:
Councilman's Stephen Levin district office
410 Atlantic Avenue (near Bond Street)
Monday-Friday between 10 AM and 5 Pm
For more information, contact Betty Lester at :
BEJAY919 at Yahoo dot com or 718 243 1252
Toys, books and games accepted.

This is the season of giving... so please help us bring a little happiness to a child this Holiday Season!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!

This is a wonderful idea, that would be made even better if there was another drop-off point on the other end of the neighborhood (say, Joan Millman's office) so that those of us too far away could have a closer location to deliver gifts!

Great idea. I will get in contact with Betty to ask if that could be arranged.
