A few days ago, I came across this wonderful old map from 1855, showing the far end of both Smith and Court Streets with lots of empty space remaining. Some of the blocks had a few houses, only one was fully built.

The map clearly shows how brownstones were built in clusters. Within the next 20 years, that part of the neighborhood was fully developed.
