Best Comment Of The Day: Unreported Thefts

Anonymous has left the following comment on the post "Concern Over Increase In Robberies In Carroll Gardens":
I got robbed at the end of June around 4am as I was waiting for a ride to the airport on 1st and Hoyt. Two African American gentlemen in their late 20's early 30's stole my iPhone. It was non-violent as I pretty much just let them have it because I was more concerned about the rest of my luggage (laptop, camera, etc).
I didn't bother reporting it because it's just a cell phone, and I seriously doubt the cops could have done anything about it anyway.Makes you wonder though how many more people like me don't bother to report these kinds of minor non-violent thefts in Carroll Gardens.

You should report this crime, you will not get your phone back but each report helps the police. Often these street crimes are committed by a few active criminals and the police build up profiles on crime reports.

The problem is the precinct can't get a bigger budget to handle more cops patrolling the streets if there isn't a record of the increase in crime. As small as this stuff may seem, you have to report it if you'd like more cops in the neighborhood to either prevent or catch the people that are robbing people.
