Almost exactly a year ago, Halstead Property bought Cobble Heights Realty at 206 Court Street in Cobble Hill as well as Heights Berkeley Realty at 76 7th Avenue in Park Slope.
Though Halstead already has an office on Court Street, just blocks away at 162 Court Street, it kept both locations open for a year. However, it has just closed the office at 206 Court Street and is directing everyone to its existing location at the corner of Amity Street.
A real estate source informed me that "the deal was originally made just so Douglas Elliman could get the corner location in Park Slope formerly occupied by Heights Berkeley Realty."
What's more interesting for Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens residents is that the tipster also informed PMFA that a high end houseware store is coming to the Court Street location.
That's great news. We sure could use one.
Any word on what’s going in on the corner of Douglass and Court?
ReplyDeleteThe former paint store? Yes, I would love to find out what's going i as well. Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteI was able to peek in a little bit the other day and it looked restaurant-ish! Fingers crossed no more Thai food or burger joints...
ReplyDeleteYes, let's hope no more burgers.
ReplyDeletei suspect it will be a full-service nail salon that serves thai food and burgers.
ReplyDeleteTrish, you are probably right.
ReplyDeleteI think that the old paint store is going to be a bagel place.
ReplyDeleteI hope a good housewares store moves in, that would be great!!
It's definitely a food-related business. I saw a walk-in refrigerator being installed downstairs and also see food display cases in there. Maybe a takeout wood burning pizza burger nail salon that will also find you an apartment? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteIt's another location of Bergen Bagels. Brownstoner reported it awhile back. Supposedly the bagels are very good. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. Looking forward to a better bagel place here in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI so don't want a high end housewares store. I don't want to be in a high end neighborhood. I love Winn Discount, and Close out Connections, and the card store with fun housewares and other local places. The high end places knock out the other guys, and then take off. I'll never forget when Blockbuster destroyed every small video store in the neighborhood within six months and then left that big gaping hole and no options.
ReplyDeleteHi Jill,
ReplyDeleteI agree, except for the fact that Winn Discount has jacked up its prices so much that it has become 'upscale' without looking upscale.
If I am going to spend $9 for a replacement mop sponge, I don't want to trip over boxes in the aisles.
It was a grew neighborhood store years ago, but now they are just fleecing local residents who don't have a car and can't go to Lowe's.
I agree. I went into Winn ONCE, and everything I could have possibly bought on a regular basis there was overpriced. Almost comically so.
ReplyDeleteA housewares store would be a great addition to the neighborhood.
And what makes you think that another Housewares Store would charge any less than Winn's?
ReplyDeleteConsider what thier Rent or Mortgage would be as a new arrival in C.G. Do you really think they're not going to charge "at least" the MSRP?
Winn's Prices have gone-up, but most of their prices are under MSRP.
Winn is an individual location - of course you can by Mop Replacement Heads at PathMark for less - - - their buyers shop for 100's of stores and they get a volume discount.
Maybe if Winn just spiffy'd up a bit and simplified their inventory. Either way, its always nice to have options.
ReplyDeleteThe reason to shop at Winn is because it's convenient.. And I LOVE that they have a little bit of everything, it's what makes the place unique.
ReplyDeleteI pass that block every morning on my walk to Boro Hall subway. Court Street is filthy lately, and that block is one of the worst. Garbage thrown everywhere. What happened to sweeping our sidewalks?
