As part of their 3rd Annual Block Party on September 7th, the residents of  1st Street, between Hoyt and Bond Streets in Carroll Gardens/ Gowanus, are holding a "Meatball Competition."
The whole block will judge the various submissions and "bonus consideration will be given for gravy/marinara."
To edge out other competitors, the organizers are encouraging "double voting, rigging and bribery" of neighbors.
As per the flier, this is what's at stake:
First Prize: Respect from your neighbors
Second Prize: Nothing
Third Prize:Nothing

Of course, the event is primarily for the residents of that block, but what a great idea.
Perhaps the idea of a meatball competition can be expanded to the entire neighborhood?  How about it?
