It most likely has nothing to do with Tuesday's post about the decrepit condition of the abandoned red and white kiosks at the corner of Smith Street and Union Street, but on Wednesday, workers began to dismantle them.
The kiosks and the big tent right next to them had been used by the Brooklyn Indie Market until the end of 2010. Since then, they have been used as trash receptacles, pissoires and shelter for the homeless.
Recently, a reader reported having spoken to the landlord, who assured her that he would be cleaning the site up soon. He apparently planned on erecting a billboard for revenue.
I talked to one of the men dismantling one of the kiosks yesterday. He claimed that the landlord was going to build on the site.
Stay tuned.
