Scare On Smith Street: Fire In Building On Smith Street Prompts Massive Fire Department Response

Carroll Gardeners had quite a scare at around 1:20 Pm this afternoon.
Smoke escaping from the third floor of a building at 279 Smith Street that houses Savoia, an Italian restaurant, alarmed some neighbors and pedestrians, who immediately called the Fire Department. Within minutes at least 8 firetrucks from Red Hook Ladder 131 arrived at the scene and made their way into the building and onto its roof.
It was quite a scene and Smith Street was basically closed.
Thankfully, the fire seemed to be contained fairly quickly and everything is back to normal now.
