Friends of Carroll Park, the all volunteer group that keeps our park looking beautiful throughout the year, is hosting a clothing and textiles collection in the Bob Acido Park house in Carroll Park this coming Saturday and Sunday, January 11th and 12th, from 12 pm to 4 pm.
Here is more info:
"Maybe you've cleaned out the closet to make room for all of the new clothes you received this holiday season, or maybe you received some really dud duds that you want to get rid of...either way, we'll help by taking unwanted threads off your hands this weekend!
Just bring any clothes, shoes, accessories, towels, beddings, or other textiles to the Robert Acito Park House on Saturday or Sunday afternoon and deposit them into our re-fashioNYC bin. They will then be collected and sorted by the Department of Sanitation, who will pass along salable items to Housing Works charity thrift shops and responsibly recycle anything at the end of its life cycle.
Bonus: we'll also be serving up hot cider, so even if you don't have fabrics or accessories to recycle, stop by to meet some of the members of Friends of Carroll Park and have a warm drink!"

So... for those of us who missed last weekend's clothing drop... any suggestions for nearby places to bring gently used clothing?
You can always bring your gently used clothing to the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket on Sunday mornings. The drop-off is on Smith Street at Carroll Street.
Do we know if this is a legitimate charity or is it a "Collect, Clean & Cash-in" box?
Many collection boxes are FOR profit, without anyone knowing it.
Yes, it most certainly is legal. The box is an official Housing Works box and has been issued by the non-for-profit organization. See the video that I included in the post.
Only Housing Works comes to empty it.
Friends of Carroll Park is merely helping to reduce waste in our landfills by 'hosting' the box and helping a charitable organization.
