There is no mention of a closing on the restaurant's web site or on Yelp, but reader Nik Z. reports that Cubana has been taken off of Seamless and that the phone number is disconnected. Not a good sign by any means.
Cubana Café has been a go-to place for many years in the neighborhood. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is casual, unpretentious, the food wonderful and the mojitos even better.
If the café has closed for good, I will most definitely miss their mojitos, their chick pea salad, and most importantly, their grilled shrimp sandwich.
Does anyone have more info on this place?

NOOOOOOOOO! My favorite spot in Carroll Gardens by far. I dream about the Steak Sandwich and Shrimp Quesadilla. This ruined my day.
Sample also seems to have closed in December. So sad. I don't think anyone will miss Mad Dog, though.

I called the other Cubana Cafe in Park Slope and asked if they closed the Smith Street location. I got a simple "Yes". I'm going to miss the Stuffed Poblano Chile... good news is that they have the other location still. I wonder what happened. They were always so busy. Darn Smith Street rents I bet.
It is rents that are the biggest problem for small businesses on Smith and Court. The proposed business district BID will only drive costs up for businesses and do nothing to keep rents manageable, so what's the point to the BID.
I think they're coming back! I saw a sign that said "Cubana Cafe opening soon" and a bunch of guys renovating inside.

They renovated the inside a little bit and are back and as lovely as ever!
That's wonderful news. I will check it out as soon as I am back in Brooklyn.
