If you are doing a bit of spring cleaning, don't just kick your old electronic devices out on the curb.
Rather, take them to one of the free electronics recycling events in Brooklyn with the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
Here in Carroll Gardens, the Center has scheduled a collection on Saturday, May 02, 2015 @10:00am - 4:00pm, on Smith Street between President and Union Streets.

From the Lower East Side Ecology Center:

SPRING 2015 E-WASTE COLLECTION EVENTS

"Curbside disposal of e-waste is now illegal – avoid a $100 fine!

Electronics are composed of many recyclable parts, and some components contain precious metals that are not only valuable, but can be extremely toxic to the environment if they are not recovered properly. The Lower East Side Ecology Center’s e-waste recycling program guarantees that materials are recycled conscientiously while also ensuring data security.

The recycling of unwanted electronics is a capital-intensive process that utilizes shredders and optical sorting technologies, and depends on the global commodities marketplace for materials to re-enter the production cycle.

The following working and non-working equipment is accepted at all Lower East Side Ecology Center events: computers, monitors, printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers, tablets/e-readers, cords and cables, TVs, VCRs, CD & DVD players, audio-visual equipment, gaming equipment, cell phones, and phones. We cannot accept any household appliances including air conditioners or microwaves."

Does anyone know of any paper recycling/shredding events nearby? It would be a great public service to the 'pack rats' among us having large bags/boxes of paper in need of shredding.
