The first thing I noticed when I got back to Carroll Gardens after the summer were the branches of my neighbor's peach tree in the back yard, which were laden with tons of ripe peaches. It was a beautiful sight. Luckily, my neighbor and her daughter Lena were kind enough to share the bounty with me. "Here," Lena told me when she handed me a huge bag over the fence. "Organic, locally sourced peaches. Grown in Brooklyn!"
This past week-end, I used the fruit to made a peach cobbler and to make preserves.
Have you come across a great backyard crop in Carroll Gardens?
