This month, the Carroll Garden Greenmarket is celebrating Fall with two fun events.  First up is the chance to win a prize by guessing the weight of a giant pumpkin. Then, the following week, meet local chef Hetty McKinnon of Arthur Street Kitchen and watch her cooking demo.  She is a dear friend of mine, so please stop by to say hi to her.

Pumpkin Patch Day and "Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin"
October 18th, 9am to 1pm
Get all your Halloween and Fall décor at the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket. Nolasco Farm will be bringing lots of pumpkins for a pumpkin patch! Take your photo among the pumpkins and gourds and bring some home for carving. There will also be a giant pumpkin. Guess the right weight a win a Carroll Gardens totebag with market goodies.

Arthur Street Kitchen Cooking Demo

Arthur Street Kitchen's Hetty McKinnon, a Carroll Gardens neighbor, will be leading a wonderfully Fall cooking demo. She's a self proclaimed winter squash lover and will show us how to make a delicious Fall salad.

Given that the sidewalk of the green market is so narrow with the stalls in place, and I think I saw some markings for new trees to be installed only making things tighter, can anything be done to improve the location? Could the street be shut down for use? Maybe a corner of the park's ball courts? How/where does one suggest this? (I've often wondered, and this seemed as good a place to ask as any)

It would seem logical to me to close traffic on that street on Sundays so that the Green Market could set up either on both sides so that people could use the street or set up in the street directly.
It would also allow the market to expand.
I think I heard that the Greenmarket would be all for that. Perhaps if someone started a petition?

It would seem logical that a farmer's market cost less then the supermarket or health food store in the area... Since it's coming direct from the source. It's pretty nuts the cost of produce from the "farmer's market". In most cases it's twice as much. I would love to support them but the cost is insane. I propose we raise the cost of all produce so only the truly health-minded upper class can afford it. There macaroni and cheese for everyone else. Cheese has lots of Calcium for bones and legs.
