It was wonderful to see how many local residents took time out on this past Memorial Day to celebrate all those who lost their lives while serving in the country's armed forces.
The ceremony, which takes place annually in Carroll Park, is always deeply moving. An honor guard, made up of our local veterans, lays a wreath at the base of the park's World War 1 memorial, while old and young solemny look on and take time to reflect on the past.
The event is organized by Court Street Merchants Association with the help of Friends Of Carroll Park and both groups deserve our thanks.
The one person who was mission at the ceremony this year was Vince Mazzone of Mazzone's Hardware. Vince was the driving force behind making the Memorial Day Celebration as well as the Veterans' Day Celebration a tradition in Carroll Park.
Vince could not attend this past Monday, but he was very much in everyone's mind.
